AI-native university study platform, designed and built solo end-to-end: from the backend architecture to the self-hosted infrastructure for AI inference, all the way to automated testing.
In short
Studio AI is a full-stack web application that turns university study material (PDFs, images, HTML pages) into a complete AI-assisted learning ecosystem: summaries, spaced-repetition flashcards, quizzes, RAG chat over your own sources, concept maps, study planning and tracking of the entire degree path โ including calendar, administrative deadlines, thesis and exams.
The project was born and grew as a real product for a personal use case (a university student), not as a demo exercise: every feature was driven by a concrete need, verified against real data and iterated based on problems actually encountered in use.
The problem
Modern university study is fragmented across too many tools: scattered PDFs, separate notes, flashcards in one app, calendar in another, no link between "what I need to study" and "what I've already understood". Generic AI tools (ChatGPT, etc.) have no memory of the student's specific material and don't integrate with real deadlines, exams and semester planning.
The goal: a single place to upload the sources for an exam and automatically get derived, verifiable study materials, plus an integrated view of the entire degree path โ with an AI that answers only based on the uploaded documents, not by hallucination.
What it does
Study materials (per course)
- Multi-format sources (PDF, images via OCR, HTML, text), processed and embedded in the background.
- Automatic summaries (including an "audio-friendly" rewrite), a study guide generated across all of a course's sources and exportable to PDF, hierarchical concept maps.
- RAG chat with citations clickable back to the exact passage in the source, persistent history, automatic retry on empty responses.
- Flashcards with AI generation or manual creation, spaced repetition (SM-2 algorithm), hands-free voice review, TSV/Anki import/export.
- Multiple-choice and open-answer quizzes, timed exam simulations, a mistake journal and automatically detected weak spots.
- Listening to materials via text-to-speech with synchronized text highlighting, read-only project sharing via invite link.
Degree path
- Overview with required credits, weighted average, graduation grade projection and a "what-if" simulator for the final grade.
- Tracking of every exam required per academic year, with automatic exam โ study project linking.
- Administrative deadlines, thesis/internship milestones, expense and certification tracking, contact directory.
- Block-based study plan with automatic calculation of daily sessions up to a target date, exportable to ICS.
Calendar and organization
- A unified "Today" view (recommended study session, flashcards due for review, the day's events) and a full month/day calendar.
- Two-way sync with Google Calendar and Apple Calendar, with a per-category toggle and real sync error handling.
- Recurring class schedule, a Pomodoro timer with a live calendar event, conflict detection between events, automatic review reminders.
Dashboard, stats and search
- Cross-project dashboard and global search, across sources, flashcards, quizzes and chat for every course.
- Stats on quiz performance and daily study streaks.
- Weekly digest via push notification with week-over-week comparison, an AI study assistant that spans every course.
Account and settings
- Profile, degree program, 8 color themes (light/dark), choice of text-to-speech voice (Piper or XTTS-v2).
- Calendar connections and sync preferences, document archive with backup.
- Offline mode (PWA) to browse already-downloaded materials, rate-limited login authentication.
